Google announced earlier today that it plans to add a feature to Google Play Music that will allow users to play and discover podcasts. In preparation for the launch of the new service, Google has set up a portal for podcasters to upload their podcasts to Google Play Music. Google did not indicate when listeners will be able to start using its music service to play podcasts but did indicate that the new service will have a podcast discovery aspect that “will connect new listeners with podcasts based on what they’re doing, how they’re feeling, or what they’re interested in.”
Several podcasts and podcast networks, including Earwolf, Gimlet Media, Radiotopia, Loud Speakers Network and Feral Audio, have already signed up with Google to make their shows available via Google Play Music. Google will be providing more details about the new service in the coming months.
