I have another short version of the Week in Review for last week as I transition from moving to vacationing. Last week’s highlights should hit the spot whether you love dogs, are doggedly determined that Prince is a better musician than Michael Jackson ever was, or are interested in hearing about the dog-eat-dog world of showbiz.
Can I Pet Your Dog: Dog lovers will want to check out this new Maximum Fun podcast which debuted last week. Hosted by a dog owner, Allegra Ringo, and a dog lover, Renee Colvert, the podcast promises to provide the hosts’ personal stories about dogs, recent dog news, and interviews with other dog owners. The first guest was Broadway composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who talked about the stray “beach dog” he adopted while traveling in the Dominican Republic.
Red Light Special: Rob Markman and Kristin Coral took their R&B podcast beyond the genre to talk about the recent uproar in the hip hop world over whether Drake writes his own lyrics. Speaking with guests Bizkit and S Whit, the group compared the value placed on writing your own lyrics in hip hop versus R&B. They also discussed a topic for the ages: Prince or Michael Jackson? There is no definitive resolution of course, but the discussion is definitely lively.
The Champs: After taking a couple of months off from their podcast, Neal Brennan and Moshe Kasher returned with an episode recorded live at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. Brennan and Kasher spoke with guest and fellow comedian Wanda Sykes about her career as a stand-up and actor as well as her personal life.
